Privacy Statement
This is an overview of how Playground uses your personal information.
This notice explains what personal data (information) we hold about you, how we collect, how we use and may share information about you. We are required to give you this information under data protection law.
Who we are
Playground is a Kent County Council programme. Kent County Council collects, uses and is responsible for certain personal information about you. When we do so we are regulated under the General Data Protection Regulation which applies across the European Union (including in the United Kingdom) and we are responsible as ‘controller’ of that personal information for the purposes of those laws. Our Data Protection Officer is Benjamin Watts.
The personal information we collect and use
Information collected by us
In the course of registering for a Playground session, signing up to the Playground newsletter, completing customer inquiries or submitting messages and feedback, we collect the following personal information when you provide it to us:
- names
- phone numbers
- email addresses
- family details (family members and relationship to them)
How we use your personal information
We use your personal information:
- to register you/and or your family as a participant
- when you register to receive our newsletter, we’ll store the personal information you give us such as your name and email address
- To contact you if needed with regards to the sessions and feedback
- In order to improve our website, when you visit our website we may analyse information about how you interact with our content
How long your personal data will be kept
- We will only hold your personal information for as long as necessary.
- If you receive marketing communications from us, we shall retain your personal data until you opt out of receiving such communications. There is an option to unsubscribe in every email that we send you
- If you have otherwise booked a ticket or associated products and services with us or contacted us with a question or comment, we shall retain your personal data for 6 months following such contact to respond to any further queries you might have.
Who we share your personal information with
We routinely share:
- name, family details (family members and relationship to them) and contact details with libraries, community centres and venues that you have booked a session for
This data sharing allows the appropriate staff in the venues to have your details ahead of the event.
- We may share your name, last name and email address with any service providers, sub-contractors and agents that we may appoint to perform functions on our behalf and in accordance with our instructions, including event ticketing providers and email communication providers.
Kent County Council is part of the SELMS consortium. Your details will be held on a shared database but your details will only be available to the appropriate staff members. All personal data is held strictly in accordance with the requirements of current Data Protection legislation.
Data can be shared with other Kent County Council services if requested.
Our website
We collect and use certain information or data about you when you use our website. Cookies are small text files that may be placed on your computer when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work and to make them more efficient. We use cookies to help understand how you use the website so we can make it better.
We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand how people use our website and for gathering feedback, so we can improve it. These technologies use a unique identifier in order to work and process data about the type of device and browser you use to access our website.
We use YouTube and Vimeo (“embedded video players”) to show video content on our website. They also use a unique identifier to provide us with data about how many people watch our videos. Vimeo may also use data they collect for advertising purposes.

The data we collect on this site can be viewed by authorised people in Kent County Council as well as suppliers, to:
- provide analytics and video player services
- improve the site by monitoring how you use it
- gather feedback to improve our services
- respond to any feedback you send us, if you’ve asked us to
- allow you to access council services and make transactions
- provide you with information about local services if you want it.
We only use non-essential cookies with your consent (the legal basis for processing). We have a Cookie Consent Mechanism which allows you to accept or reject our use of non-essential cookies. When you visit www.kent.gov.uk you will be asked to accept our use of cookies, or you can choose to set your cookie preferences. If you do not wish to accept our use of cookies then make sure the sliders for the types cookie you do not want us to use is set to the “off” position.

Playgroundkent.co.uk contains links to other websites. This privacy statement only applies to www.playgroundkent.co.uk and doesn’t cover other services and websites that we link to. These services will have their own terms and conditions and privacy policies. If you go to another website from this one, read the privacy policy on that website to find out what it does with your information.
Your rights
Under GDPR you have rights which you can exercise free of charge which allow you to:
- know what we are doing with your information and why we are doing it
- ask to see what information we hold about you (subject access request)
- ask us to correct any mistakes in the information we hold about you
- object to direct marketing
- make a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office
Depending on our reason for using your information you may also be entitled to:
- ask us to delete information we hold about you
- have your information transferred electronically to yourself or to another organisation
- object to decisions being made that significantly affect you
- object to how we are using your information
- stop us using your information in certain ways
We will always seek to comply with your request however we may be required to hold or use your information to comply with legal duties. Please note, your request may delay or prevent us delivering a service to you.

Keeping your personal information secure
We have appropriate security measures in place to prevent personal information from being accidentally lost, or used or accessed in an unauthorised way. We limit access to your personal information to those who have a genuine business need to know it. Those processing your information will do so only in an authorised manner and are subject to a duty of confidentiality.
We also have procedures in place to deal with any suspected data security breach. We will notify you and any applicable regulator of a suspected data security breach where we are legally required to do so.
