Playground Specialist Sessions (SEND)
Step into a world of sensory wonder and creative exploration.
Free creative and multi-sensory activities especially designed for children, parents/carers, teachers and support staff in Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) settings supported by artists from a range of disciplines, including music, visual arts, drama and dance.
From exploring music, light and textures to movement and smell, Playground Specialist Sessions empower families to connect with each other in new, fun and creative ways.
Each session lasts 45 minutes and is facilitated by artists experienced at working in SEND settings.
Words matter. Playground regularly considers the language we use around disabilities to promote equity and avoid othering. We use the term Special Education Needs and Disabilities as this is the current language that the parents, carers and organisations we regularly engage with use and recognise. We reflect on language and other aspects of Playground regularly as our aim is for Playground to be as inclusive to as many young children and families as possible. Get in touch with [email protected] if you’d like to discuss this further.
“It’s given us all a space. It's been amazing to be able to see the children interacting in a way that they would never do at home, you know, never, ever, never… It's just like a snippet of what could be at home and it's trying to find a way of doing that.”.

"It just allows them to be them and find their identity again, and do that through art and building relationships with each other. They were just allowed to be them…. They were allowed to be autistic; they were allowed to be whatever label you want to give them…they could just be themselves. They could explore those behaviours that they have naturally and express that in an artistic way.”
